چکیده

These data hint that arteritis may be more prevalent in the frontal branch than the parietal branch. Notably, in the majority of patients who had imaging signs of temporal arteritis, abnormalities were present in one branch but not the other, at least on one side. Although neuroimaging is not equivalent to the gold standard of histopathological analysis, this result suggests that selective involvement of a single branch of the superficial temporal artery is not rare. Bilateral temporal artery biopsy is sometimes performed to improve the chance of obtaining a positive result, especially if systemic symptoms are present. However, only a handful of patients will have a negative biopsy finding on one side and a positive biopsy finding on the other side. If a second biopsy is contemplated, it may be more fruitful to sample the other branch of the artery on the same side rather than the same branch on the other side. In the future, surgeons should record whether they have biopsied the frontal or parietal branch so that data can be gathered to determine which branch is inflamed most frequently. This information may increase the diagnostic yield of temporal artery biopsy. Repeated Retrobulbar Injections of Triamcinolone Acetonide for Thyroid Orbitopathy

Background: Thyroid associated orbitopathy (TAO) is an autoimmune disorder. It usually occurs in association with hyperthyroidism. Systemic corticosteroids provide the mainstay treatment for patients with severe and active orbitopathy, but its benefit is associated with important side effects. Attempts to reduce the systemic effects of corticosteroid by using local steroid administration by ret...

Pain management with retrobulbar alcohol injection in absolute glaucoma.

Ocular pain can be multi-factorial and often refractory to treatment, in spite of the myriad options available to the ophthalmologist for its management. Initial therapy entails the use of topical and systemic pressure lowering agents as well as anti-inflammatory/analgesics for the provision of relief. Those refractory to medical therapy may require surgical intervention in the form of cyclodes...

Targeted systemic delivery of a therapeutic siRNA with a multifunctional carrier controls tumor proliferation in mice.

In this study, novel peptide-targeted delivery systems were developed for systemic and targeted delivery of therapeutic siRNA based on a multifunctional carrier, (1-aminoethyl)iminobis[N-(oleicylcysteinylhistinyl-1-aminoethyl)propionamide] (EHCO), which showed pH-sensitive amphiphilic cell membrane disruption. EHCO formed stable nanoparticles with siRNA. Targeted siRNA delivery systems were rea...

Oral premedication with low dose midazolam modifies the immunological stress reaction after the setting of retrobulbar anaesthesia.

BACKGROUND/AIMS An acute immunological stress reaction was previously reported to occur after the painful setting of retrobulbar anaesthesia before intraocular surgery. This study was conducted to find out whether an oral low dose premedication with midazolam would modify the immunological stress reaction. METHODS 32 patients undergoing intraocular surgery using retrobulbar anaesthesia were i...
